Something occurred to me today that I had not seriously considered before, but that may have to go on my list of things to consider seriously. What are my doctrinal limits? What is it that draws me to the church group of which I am part, and what would repel me from certain others? This is a difficult question for me, because I know so little about so many kinds of Christianity. I would like to think I'm able to give most groups at least a chance, but there's bound to be a line I find difficult or impossible to cross.

I grew up Baptist, and the more I think about it, the more I realize that the vast majority of the communities and individuals who have taught me and inspired me the most are or at some point were closely associated with a Baptist congregation. Whether I know them personally or have just seen them speak, heard a sermon, etc., it seems to be the people within this particular stream that have helped to open my eyes to the power and beauty and everything else of Jesus Christ, the glory of the Gospel, and the response that these demand of my life. As far as doctrine, there are a few things that I may not agree with so fully now as I did when I was a youth kid (thanks in part to my time at LCU), but in my passing knowledge of other types of churches, this is still the one that I identify the most with and whose teachings generally line up the most with my understanding of Scripture. I should probably qualify every statement I just made, but I suspect you'll understand. :)
